1 year check-up - Good results!

I had my one-year MRI and a spot mammogram, and results were good! The mammogram said "Probably benign", which they expect after surgery, and there were no changes since 6 months ago. And the MRI showed no issues. So I remain in the status of "No evidence of Disease" and am thrilled. My feet and hands look and feel good again, which is exciting! My fingerprints are back and I'm delighted to be able to open my own jars and bottles! My main remaining symptoms are inability to focus and accomplish complicated tasks, low endurance, low arm strength, and lower breathing ability. They mostly don't bother me much and are all improving. Frank came back from a FIRST Robotics convention and tested positive for Covid a couple days later, and although we'd stayed apart since he got home, I tested positive the next day. We isolated a lot, but didn't have terrible symptoms. Mostly sore throat, cough, stuffy nose, and fever for a couple of days. I'm thankful th...

3 weeks of radiation done

This week I've noticed some side effects from the radiation treatments. My skin on the right (radiated) side is starting to turn a bit pink, the nipple and areola are itchy and have raised bumps, and I have occasional pain in that breast. Nothing too bad, and lotion helps with the itching.

I haven't gotten as far in my book this week because a chatty woman comes 25 minutes early for her appointment, so we overlap and have been talking. She's very nice, and has been on a very similar journey to mine. I may have to go an hour early on the last day to make reading the book end on the last day!

I asked the technicians to take photos of what they are looking at when they line me up before the treatment, and these are the photos. The first one is before I am lined up, and the second one after. They want all the red colored areas to be within the vertical lines and turn green. They have to adjust all the ways a 3D object (in this case, me!) can be moved, from yaw, pitch, roll, height, etc. The numbers that show how far off they are are in millimeters.



On Tuesday, I made it almost through all the volleyball games, even though it was very hot. I quit at the last game, as I was starting to feel tired, but that's the best endurance I've had so far! On Thursday, it was so hot at Ultimate frisbee that we just threw the frisbee around rather than running and playing an actual game. Even with that, I quit a bit early, as my arms got a bunch of red dots, which seemed like it was from the heat. Seemed fine after pouring water on them though. 

Friday, Frank and I got to go down to see Suzi. She is all recovered from covid, and we've missed seeing her lately! It was very nice to get some hugs and help her with some projects.

My immunotherapy infusions will begin again on Wednesday. I'll have blood tests and a doctor appointment first, then an infusion. When I had just this treatment before, it went smoothly, so I'm not expecting any problems.

Feeling good!

Since my last chemo dose (on St Patrick's Day!), I've been focused on getting my feet healthier, getting stronger, and getting back to some of the activities I'd been unable to do. I continued my blood thinners for a month, then finally had the OK to stop that.  I kept mostly off my feet and stuck to my bike for the first month, and that helped. My feet have improved to the point where I can walk 3 miles with all my regular walking buddies, play volleyball and pickle ball and frisbee, and I walked over 12,000 steps each day I was in Houston last month, but after that, they got little itchy bumps and blisters, especially between and on the toes, so I slowed back down quite a bit. The feet still get very red and shiny after I use them a lot, but they settle back down. The doctor expects it will take maybe 3 months before they start seeming back to normal, but it's already a huge improvement, usefulness wise! I am done with treatments!

Last Friday, I took my last chemotherapy pills! Hip hip hooray! Frank surprised me with a zoom call with family and some close friends that evening and we started celebrating! I plan to continue forever! This last treatment was pretty tough. I kept off my feet except for needed steps inside the house, yet still got a huge blister on my big toe. I did lots of epsom salt soaks and elevation and ice, and it is now gone, so I can get around the house without pain now. I also still had trouble with my tailbone, but that has improved a lot. Then I got a cold, or maybe allergies, and hung on the couch for a week. I seem to be mostly over that now. I limped in to church to sing a Beetles song with a small group, then went home. The congregation and choir have recently made masks optional, so I'm not hanging around for now, until I feel my immune system has had a chance to get stronger. Plus, it's still exhausting!
