1 year check-up - Good results!

I had my one-year MRI and a spot mammogram, and results were good! The mammogram said "Probably benign", which they expect after surgery, and there were no changes since 6 months ago. And the MRI showed no issues. So I remain in the status of "No evidence of Disease" and am thrilled. My feet and hands look and feel good again, which is exciting! My fingerprints are back and I'm delighted to be able to open my own jars and bottles! My main remaining symptoms are inability to focus and accomplish complicated tasks, low endurance, low arm strength, and lower breathing ability. They mostly don't bother me much and are all improving. Frank came back from a FIRST Robotics convention and tested positive for Covid a couple days later, and although we'd stayed apart since he got home, I tested positive the next day. 4th treatment: Pembro only

Yesterday, I had my first treatment of just the Pembro (the immunotherapy drug). It was much quicker and easier than the AC treatments have been. I got an IV just like before, waited for the drug to be compounded and delivered, then the nurse hooked me up to some saline and the Pembro, and less than 30 minutes later, I was done, and we headed home. There were no anti-nausea drugs needed, and no arm medication dispenser needed either.

It’s a good thing it was easy, because I wasn’t feeling great. I don’t know if it was because this treatment was only a week apart, but I never really got my energy back this week. I was still really tired. Then Wednesday morning, I think I must have eaten some bad food, because I felt nauseous. My anti-nausea wristband had run out of its charge, so that was no help. I struggled through the day, and during the treatment, I spent the whole time listening to the positive upbeat music on my playlist to keep my spirits up. By the time we were in the car, I felt well enough to eat some snacks, and felt better. Today, I was much better, and was able to go on a 2 mile walk, load the dishwasher, unload groceries that got delivered, go through the mail, and make dinner. So much more energy!

I will have to wait and see if there are any side effects from just the Pembro in the next few days, but so far, I’m feeling good. 

My next treatment will be my 4th AC chemo on 1/26, also mid-afternoon.

Also, I got two fun and comfy hats in the mail from my sister Janet, a book from my cousin Arlene, and some cool cat cards from my artist friend Dick! Frank helped me model the hats!

Feeling good!

Since my last chemo dose (on St Patrick's Day!), I've been focused on getting my feet healthier, getting stronger, and getting back to some of the activities I'd been unable to do. I continued my blood thinners for a month, then finally had the OK to stop that.  I kept mostly off my feet and stuck to my bike for the first month, and that helped. My feet have improved to the point where I can walk 3 miles with all my regular walking buddies, play volleyball and pickle ball and frisbee, and I walked over 12,000 steps each day I was in Houston last month, but after that, they got little itchy bumps and blisters, especially between and on the toes, so I slowed back down quite a bit. The feet still get very red and shiny after I use them a lot, but they settle back down. The doctor expects it will take maybe 3 months before they start seeming back to normal, but it's already a huge improvement, usefulness wise! I am done with treatments!

Last Friday, I took my last chemotherapy pills! Hip hip hooray! Frank surprised me with a zoom call with family and some close friends that evening and we started celebrating! I plan to continue forever! This last treatment was pretty tough. I kept off my feet except for needed steps inside the house, yet still got a huge blister on my big toe. I did lots of epsom salt soaks and elevation and ice, and it is now gone, so I can get around the house without pain now. I also still had trouble with my tailbone, but that has improved a lot. Then I got a cold, or maybe allergies, and hung on the couch for a week. I seem to be mostly over that now. I limped in to church to sing a Beetles song with a small group, then went home. The congregation and choir have recently made masks optional, so I'm not hanging around for now, until I feel my immune system has had a chance to get stronger. Plus, it's still exhausting!
